The multilingualism in Europe is both a rich cultural heritage and also a critical barrier so as to consolidate the Digital Single Market Strategy. Aware of preserving the great variety of languages in Europe together with the encouraging of the DSM, the European Parliament has committed this study, carried out by Quanticae, on the role of the language technologies to tackle these challenges successfully.
This report analyses the current state and the future trends in the development of the language technologies. It also describes the impact at European level of the linguistic diversity in key aspects such as the relation between the citizens and governments or the electronic commerce growth, among others. Finally, the report offers a number of public policy recommendations to boost the development of these technologies with the aim of all European citizens, irrespective of their mother tongue, have the same opportunities.
The study has been carried out by Quanticae within the framework contract signed with the European Parliament for the provision of reports in the field of technological foresight.
